She worked in a prison, in a northern state, while she was only in her twenties. I'm not certain as to her title. It was education related. She was director of programs regarding education for the prison. She was actually sued two or three times by prisoners while serving in that capacity. Unbelievable. They were all dismissed as frivolous. She has regaled me with incredible tales from that time in her life. I will tell some of them some day. Then she went on to teach in the public school system, and eventually ended up in administration as an assistant principal. She loved teaching but hated the AP position.
Currently she does something that I was unaware existed in the public school system. She's an investigator. She supervises and coordinates investigations of potential illegal activities of employees within the system in the county in which she lives. You would not believe some of the things with which she comes in contact. I will not be telling any of those stories. She will be retiring in a few years. Maybe then.
As I said, we lived across the street from one another for over 19 years. We raised our kids together. Her son is going to med school now. It's hard to believe that the same little boy who came home crying because his painting fell in a mud puddle, is going to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Boggles the brainpan.
As I reread this post, I realized that, in many ways, she reminds me a great deal of a much younger woman I know. It will be terribly interesting to see how this person comes together and develops as she matures into an older person. That is, of course, assuming I live long enough. :)
May be a good reason to stick around for awhile.
